How to add Open Graph tags in Shopify

Shopify themes output Open Graph tags automatically, via snippets/meta-tags.liquid in Dawn and most Online Store 2.0 themes. Products use the featured product image, title and description.

Set the default share image

Online Store › Preferences › Social sharing image. This image is used for the homepage and for pages without their own image.

Per product/collection

Edit "Search engine listing" for the title and description. The featured image becomes og:image, so use a wide crop. Square product photos show as small thumbnails on some platforms.

Custom tags

Edit meta-tags.liquid (Online Store › Themes › Edit code) to change twitter:card or add og:image:alt.

Verify

Deploy, then run the live URL through the OG previewer. It fetches the page like a social crawler (no JavaScript), so tags added only on the client side won't show up. That matches what Facebook, LinkedIn and X see.
