Ideal og:title and og:description length
Platforms truncate by pixel width and screen size, so treat these as guidelines:
| Safe length | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| og:title | 40–60 characters | LinkedIn and Facebook cut long titles at 1–2 lines. Put the key words first. |
| og:description | 100–160 characters | Often only 1 line is shown on mobile, and sometimes it's hidden entirely. |
Writing tips
- og:title doesn't have to match your SEO <title>. Drop the "| Brand" suffix, since og:site_name covers it.
- Lead with the benefit or the hook; this is ad copy, not a keyword list.
- Put critical text in the image. Some platforms (and X large cards) show little or no text.
